Just Try It

it doesn't hurt to try

or so they say.

I disagree. Sometimes, it hurts, and more than a little to try. Clearly the statement needs to be amended with some sort of clause saying that it depends.

Does it hurt to try sushi? no.. as long as its not with improperly cooked puffer fish.

Does it hurt to try drugs? probably not a good idea

Does it hurt try on the dress? no

Does it hurt to try and start a relationship? YES! There are times when there is a huge risk that you are taking. You are opening yourself to someone else. You are making yourself vulnerable. You are giving of yourself.

So does it hurt to try? if you get rejected...HECK YEA!

There are times when i am willing to take the risk, we are just starting out, I'm not exposing myself too much..that i can recover from if my friendship is spurned..but when your getting deeper and you get rejected..that leaves a scar that is not easy to recover from.

So forgive me if i am not so eager to "try because what can it hurt"

  1. It's true. Relationships are not so simple. They're an investment. And you have to be ready and willing to invest before you go into something..."just try it" is not a good enough justification. But think before you hold back because you don't want to lose an opportunity to enrich your life.

  2. On the other had a date, a lunch, a few drinks - these do not a relationship make. Trying to meet new people - yes TRY it. You are a far cry from a relationship if you go out on a date with some guy someone else has been trying to set you up with.

  3. its a risk-reward assessment thing going on i guess. yes, going on a date isnt going to hurt...but if its the day before an important exam..then no..its not worth a try..if i have nothing else to do...i like diet coke as much as the next person.
