Uvacharta B'chaim
Hey ya’ll hows it?
Do you know that I just found out this week that hows it doesn’t mean what s up rather it means hi! Any whose that is totally beside the point just some random tidbit of info. So first of all MAZAL TOV to all our BC people I was starting to get a little worried. Joking! Imyirtzeh Hashem everyone should find their bashert bezmano ubieto. Okay guys, I totally was drawing a blank as to what to write and my beloved roommate told me that this week is parshat babadam: NETZAVIM! And if you don’t remember the significance of this week try to go back to many eons ago where you sat in class and were inspected by our world-famous Mrs. Birnbaum. Have you had your epiphany yet? No? Come on guys don’t be so slow! Fine, I guess I’ll give in and tell you. “ Uvachartav be’chaim” now I could go on and on about this but I really wanted to give you the lyrics of a song my principal wrote for one or our plays this is my association with ‘ uvacharta bechaim’ way before Mrs. Birnbaum
I have a whole lifetime to refine and repair
An imperfect person the one that’s in here
I get in my way and I blame it on you
How will I do this I haven’t a clue?
But it’s possible, anything’s possible
Maybe one day I’ll be free of myself
I’ll put my ego and fears on a shelf
My thoughts and my deeds will be loving and true
Bespeaking Hashem’s love with my every move
It’s possible, anything’s possible
There might come a day when I really will be
As caring for others as I am for me
Then I will know that I’m finally. Finally, free
UVECHARTA BACHAIM
NOW THEREFORE CHOOSE LIFE!
Resolve what to think what to feel what is right
Your Father in Heaven is the archetype above
Of what you’ll become if you model His love
It’s possible anything’s possible
Okay, so I'm not preaching kollel, but I am trying to get to a point. In case you haven’t noticed we will soon be heralding the New Year and will be proclaiming Hashem as our king. As we prepare to greet this New Year and stand before Hashem to be judged let us think and reflect. Hashem created us in His image and infused within us a small part of Him. We have an obligation to go in the ways of G-d and to imitate Him in every aspect of our lives. This is not an easy concept to put into practice, it’s one of those things that we always knew intellectually but to actually think about and do it is a bit harder.
I'm offering you freedom, free yourself from the confines of your selfishness and give up of yourself. Take someone else’s needs in consideration before yours once a day, just once. It’s a frightening concept, putting others before yourself, yet when you try it you’ll be amazed at how good you’ll feel, in fact you will feel godly, for you will be following the example of your Father in Heaven.
Go and feel Godly!
Shabbat Shalom
