Your Thoughts...
So I got this today on Ben Olam Haba..
Let me know what you think..
Let me know what you think..
Pain.
Pain is real.
It's a message from Hashem.
No question about that.
Yet, it's still painful.
But.
Think about it.
Put it in perspective.
Pain is necessary.
To have it here...
...means not to have it there.
Which would we rather?
Think about it.
Here is a shadow of reality.
There is reality.
Wouldn't we rather have the pain in the world of shadow?
Wouldn't we rather enjoy the world of reality pain free?
Put it in perspective.
The pain here removes the pain there.
It isn't really pain at all.
~ Yes, the pain in this world is to lessen the punishment in the next, but i don't think it takes away from the pain that one has now. It is comforting to know that there is a purpose to it..does not mean it doesn't hurt..that's just my two cents.
true, and true... if we could see every painful situation as a means of less pain in the next world, we would all be very optimistic and idealistic... if would give meaning to pain, yet, like you said, it doesn't lessen the pain here. and then, it must be asked: physical? spiritual? emotional? mental? or is it all spiritual?
ReplyDeleteWell..all pain is possible..and it can either be given as a test..or as a way to lessen the gehinom that one gets. We can never attempt to reason and rationalize the ways of Hashem. The only option we have is how we respond to it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I don't like the last line that It isn't really pain at all because that's not true. It still hurts. It definitely helps go through the pain when you know that this is a kapparah or that by going through something difficult in this world you are saving yourself from something much worse in the next but that's not to say it's not hard while you are going through it.
ReplyDeleteIt's also that this is the ideal - to keep this in mind whenever one goes through pain is a very high level. After the fact (or before - when you pump yourself up and strengthen your emunah) it may be easier to talk about it but while someone is in the midst of a painful situation, it's hard to remain focused - that this may be taking away from the pain they were meant to go through in the next world.
There are a lot of reasons why Hashem puts people through difficult situations. This may be one of them and it definitely helps to keep this in mind. But that's not to say that it's not painful at all or that it doesn't hurt. Because it still does.
When someone is on the level of totally accepting the difficulties Hashem puts them through, let me know - cuz these tests are hard. And they hurt. Even though we know there's a reason for it. It still hurts.
Beautifully put Devorah!
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely a high level and something to strive for. It is important to keep this as an ideal, bcz if we dont have a goal..we will never move!
Wow. I have to confess, I also get ben olam habah, but RARELY bother to open up one of his e-mails. But this...THIS is good stuff. Maybe I'll start checking him out more often. What he wrote is so true and "l'fum tzarah agrah", for every bit of pain, we get rewarded. Like you said, just like everything else in life, pain has a purpose as well. Great blog, btw! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks and welcome!
ReplyDeleteHis halachot are practical so worth reading or at least skimming if your familiar with the material!
