So this is something that I wanted to write about last week but I decided to postpone it bcz the Chanukah stuff was kinda time-sensitive. So last motzai Shabbat we had a highschool reunion including the married girls who are like three or four years older than us. One of the alum who was there had an amazing story to tell us and I’d like to share it with ya’ll. So basically she is a girl in my class’s sister and half way last year her three yr old “( I think) was diagnosed with cancer, we should never know of such things. However, we can try to imagine the shock and the fear that went through his parents when they discovered the tumor. She had taken him to the doctor bcz she thought he had a lot of gas and she was worried so she went to make sure that it was nothing, the doc sent her to the hospital for x-rays bcz he didn’t want her to have to wait months for an appointment at a regular place. Hey guys, a gutten chodesh to ya’ll I know that it’s not erev Shabbat but it is in time for Rosh chodesh and Chanukah. I got a special request to share a few words with ya’ll about the festival of lights. I think its amazing how insane our weeks are and we run and run and then suddenly, its shababt and we stop everything and just have 25 hours devoted to creating a connection with Hashem. Yes, obviously we are supposed to be constantly striving to become closer to Hashem, constantly growing. However, this is unfortunately not a reality for most of us. We are so busy doing the things that keep us busy and distract us from our true purpose, so Hashem gave us a special present and that is bambadadm: Shabbat! As Shabbat approaches, are excitement grows stronger and stronger by the second. Yeah, we are excited to sleep ( that’s the sign of getting old btw, when you start taking Shabbat naps) but Shabbat is more than sleep, we are resting our neshamas from the immense mundanely days that surround it during the week and giving it the ability to reach for the sky, to express itself fully without being inhibited by the “chol” of the week. Hey guys I know that it’s been a really long time since I’ve written and I must apologize, Its insane how fast the week passes by and how fast Friday speeds by, you wake up for class and before you know it you’re running to catch the last bus to chaifa, your hair is still wet and is making a very distinct water mark on your sweater that you’re planning to wear on Shabbat cuz you’ve got the shabbos packing thing down to a science and you know that the only way you can fit your linen in your backpack is to wear everything on Friday, use your shell for a pj top (pj sweatshirt optional) and a pair of pants and the spare pair of stocking that are a MUST bcz inevitably the week you don’t bring your stockings develop a huge gash and there is more leg showing than stocking and of course in vihznitz this is not so appropriate so u have to stay in your room the whole time and ask the person you came with to give an excuse to the host and bring you back food. So here is my message of the week. This is something that I learned in one of my classes from Rabbi Brussel. He asked us a question, as moreshet is supposed to be a kiruv training school he asked us what mitzva is the source for doing kiruv. So some girls said “love thy neighbor as thy loves thy self” meaning just as you care about your own spirituality ( or at least I hope you do) so too you should care abt your fellow jew who is suffering from lack of spirituality. Someone else said that it is the commandment of “though shall not stand on the blood of thy neighbor” Meaning how can I stand by and not do anything while my brother is drowning in impurity and sin ( man i sound like a pastor!) but the answer he gave us was suprising, it was none of those it was the mitzva of loving the Almighty.
